Saturday Oct 14th - 9am to 12pm – 1pm to 4pm

Strand = Traditional two-handed knitting using more than one colour of yarn

Steek = Steek stitches are in addition to your knit in the round patterned colourwork. Once your knitting is complete, the steek stitches mark the way for you to cut your work open so that it is now flat piece of knitting. Several methods of finishing those raw edges will be discussed and the by hand method will be used.

This class is a project driven workshop where traditional two-handed stranded knitting is taught. The morning unit will begin with a quick tutorial on continental knitting to enable participants to carry yarn in both hands.

We will continue with a discussion on colour theory and colour dominance.
The project will feature a set of 4 Fair Isle Coasters mixing and matching charted colourwork patterns. The Steeking process will follow.

Knit to Fit – 3 hour module - $65.00 –

How many times have you knit a project like a sweater or vest only to discover it doesn’t fit!?
Have no fear, learn from Cheryl how to read the pattern sections referring to fit, bust measurements, finished measurements, positive ease, negative ease and other features to know about.
What size should I knit? How to take your own measurements. What style suits me?
Bring your very favourite sweater with you – to be used as a reference piece

Mosaic knitting – 3  hour module - $65.00  -
Beginner + Sunday Oct 15th 1pm to 4pm

Here’s a fun technique using two colours creating a pattern usually from a chart by slipping stitches. The finished look is wonderful!!

32nd Hospice Georgian Bay Fundraising Silent Auction 2017

Grey Heron Yarn Shop

These “Thrum Mittens” have been hand knit in the traditional Canadian way by inserting wool fleece “thrums” into the mitten to create an extra layer of warmth.

Traditional, Thrum Mittens were hand knit by coastal communities like our Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland regions to protect the fisherman’s hands from the frigid Atlantic waters.

As part of our “Canada 150” yarn shop celebrations, these mittens have our specially designed label by Jelinek Cork http://www.jelinek.com/ made in cork on each of the mitten cuffs.

The yarn and fleece come from a Nova Scotia hand yarn dyer
“Fleece Artist” who crafts magnificent colours in each of
their products.

It is our pleasure to present these Thrum Mittens for the fundraising

silent auction @ the 32nd Annual Ski & Snowshoe Day celebrated by

Locations North in support of Hospice Georgian Triangle

& The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
